Greetings! Welcome to the recently expanded College of Star Trek Literature.

As with most SFA courses, ten weeks is allowed for each course, and extensions may be granted if requested.

CSTL101 - BASIC LITERATURE TERMINOLOGY
The student will complete the Basic Literary Terminology (BLT) course. This is a pre-requisite for all other degree programs.

CSTL201- BOOK REVIEW
Students will read a Star Trek novel and write an analysis of the work, based on the terms learned in the first course.

CSTL301- MEDIA REVIEW
Students will write a comparison/contrast paper examining a work that has been both an episode or movie AND a book. Again, students will use the terms previously learned.

CSTL401 - CHARACTER STUDY
Students will choose to write either a character study or an author study. For the character study, students will closely examine a main (or major supporting) character from TOS, TNG, DS9, or VOY (ENT will be added soon), and will need to examine that character in both episodes/movies and books. For the author study, students will choose one author and examine a minimum of three Star Trek books by that author. Again, students will use the terms previously learned.

SOURCE MATERIALS NEEDED:
The only materials absolutely needed for the first course are the course manual provided upon course registation, and a working knowledge of several Star Trek episodes and movies. Subsequent courses will require the student to read one or more Star Trek novels/novelizations of the student's choice.
