100 level Courses - Trek and the Law
The three 100 level courses all explore legal issues
in the first four Star Trek series and nine motion pictures. The Star
Trek Encyclopedia will be a very useful resource.
COL101 - UFP Law
This course explores laws, general orders, decisions, regulations, and
procedures from the United Federation of Planets in the 23rd and 24th
centuries.
COL102 - The Prime Directive
General Order One is called Prime for a reason. Explore the history of
this most important of all Federation rules, and how it shapes the actions
of the UFP.
COL103 - Xenojurisprudence
IDIC meets the law. This course samples legal issues in a wide range of
cultures, especially focusing on non-UFP interstellar governments.
200 level Courses - Foundations of 24th Century Law
The three 200 level courses explore today's world, emphasizing
practical understanding for the active STARFLEET leader. Each course has
its own suggested references.
COL201 - Law Made Simple--Parliamentary Procedure
This course studies the basics of parliamentary procedure. Our rules for
running meetings derive from the practices of our legislative bodies,
and mirror their concerns. Suggested reference: Robert's Rules of Order,
in the most recent edition you can find.
COL202 - STARFLEET Procedure
Here we look at how STARFLEET runs, including organization and the duties
of officers. The STARFLEET Membership Handbook is the text.
COL203 - In Search of Human Rights
The root of 24th century sentient rights is in the philosophical debates
of earlier eras. Three prominent Terran codes are contrasted: the Bill
of Rights of the USA (1789), the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms
(1982), and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948). These codes
are available in an electronic manual (.txt file), or will be mailed to
the student.
